Photo Friday–Lake Of The Woods

Lake of the Woods Oregon

One of the best little secrets in Southern Oregon is Lake Of The Woods nestled in between Klamath Falls and Medford Oregon on Highway 140.  This very small High Mountain Lake resort is rich in history and ambience.  This lake resort was first opened to the public in 1920 when the Forest Service built a small campground along the shores.  It boasted a record 1,820 summer residents.  In 1923 the Forest Service built a second campground to accommodate the popular crowds.  Then in 1926 the Lake Of The Woods Recreation Company was given the permit to build the first resort community.

The Adirondack chairs that line the shore harken back to these days creating an inviting place for guest to relax and reminisce about days gone by.  It is one of Southern Oregon’s largest and clearest natural lakes covering 1,146 acres.  We stumbled upon this little secret one July while driving through the area on the way back from Crater Lake.  The water is clear and beautiful and the shade from the trees made a cool refreshing stop to our trip.  This would be a great place to come and spend and a week fishing, swimming, picnicking,  and relaxing.

One day I hope we can go back.
