Our Top Disney Treats!

Hungry Bear Restaurant Burger

The other night at the dinner table I asked the family what their favorite treats at Disneyland resort were. There was a rapid reply of answers these being they're favorites.

1. Popcorn (From my 11 yr. old)

2. Mickey Bars (From my 8 yr. old)

3. Churros (From my husband)

4. Frozen Bananas (My choice)

Okay so we are apparently not a very creative bunch of people when it comes to our standbys.

It is hard to beat some good old fashioned comfort foods though.

However for the substance of this article I pushed on to name those treats that were clearly only found at Disney or were just better than your average fair.

1. Bacon Wrapped Asparagus from the Bengal Tiger BBQ. Just the smell of this place will get me hungry and the bacon wrapped asparagus is perfectly cooked slightly soft yet still crunchy and filled with flavor.

2. Mickey Beignets from the Mint Julep Bar. This is a hidden little hole in the wall in New Orleans Square you can get these delicate pastries served with a Mint Julep (alcohol free). They are freshly prepared and served warm, dusted with powdered sugar. They will melt in your mouth.

3. BLT Pizza from Village Haus Restaurant. I love this pizza it is a newer menu item they added last year when the restaurant was remodeled and reopened. It has a thin flat bread crust with bacon, arugula, caramelized onions, and diced tomatoes. This makes a great lunch and leaves me feeling full and satisfied without being overstuffed. It has plenty of flavor too.

Chili Burger

Chili Cheese Burger from the Hungry Bear Restaurant

4. Chili Cheese Burger from Hungry Bear Restaurant. If you are looking for a good burger this is best place in the park. The proof is in the crowds lined up to order these delicious burgers. This particular burger is a favorite of my husband. It falls into the messy but delicious category.

5. Fried Chicken from the Plaza Inn on Main Street. We love this place! The dinners are large enough to share so when we want to eat well but need to save money this is a good choice. The dinning room is Victorian styled with comfortable seating that you don't feel rushed in.

6. Clam Chowder in a bread bowl. I know this doesn't really sound all that uniquely Disney. However, consider that this bread bowl is freshly baked San Franciscan Boudin Sourdough bread. That's right! Baked fresh daily from the same mother dough started in 1849. You can get this treat in both Disneyland Park at the Royal Street Veranda in New Orleans Square and Disney California Adventure at The Pacific Warf Cafe.

7. Dole Whip from the Tiki Juice Bar. Take your taste buds on trip to the islands while you enjoy this pineapple ice cream treat. It is the perfect treat to stop and enjoy while you wait for the show in the Tiki Room. They serve the pineapple treats in either a soft serve ice cream or as a float with fresh pineapple juice. Warning, don't wait too long to decide because the line can get long so, hurry up and get in it.

Strawberry

8. Chocolate Dipped Strawberries.  Let me first mention that no matter what fresh fruit is being offered in the Disney Parks you will do a double take.  These fruit all appear to have had been grown with magic pixie dust based on their size alone.  It is true of the giant chocolate dipped strawberries as well.  These were a perfect treat last summer when my sister-in-law and I discovered these in Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure.  It was a great mom-pick-me up.  Fresh and juicy with a dark chocolate shell.  I will surely find time to enjoy this treat again.

9.  Pineapple Spears from Tropical Imports in Adventureland.  Where else can you buy a pineapple spear for a snack?  They are cool and refreshing on a warm sunny day and perfectly sweet.  Plus you earn those extra healthy snack points along with it.  These are great while sitting and waiting and for a parade which is when we seem to enjoy them most often.

10. Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.  Ice Cream at its best.  Shakes and malts and sundaes are served along with an assortment of Ghirardelli Chocolates.  Equally as fascinating is the back drop of San Francisco on the wall behind the counter. It is fun to watch as it transforms from day to night and then to an all out earthquake San Francisco style.   Make sure you drop in and check it out.

All of these treats are counter service. Some are great for just a snack others make a meal. We all know that a vacation to Disney isn’t just about the rides and the parades but it is also about the treats that you can enjoy guilt free.  These are the ones we love to keep coming back to.
